| It was so different, an old building made into a hotel. It was super elegant in the lobby and the rooms where clean and cozy! I will be visiting Gaslamp hotel ever time I go to SD! |

| For the price, the Gaslamp Plaza Suites has a huge room, one full wall of windows with an amazing downtown view, and a location smack in the middle of shopping and restaurants. So why the reasonable price? You have to give up some comfortable niceties. The queen bed had obviously been slept in by a succession of single travelers; the indentation in the center of the bed was severe enough that my husband and I spent all four nights trying to find a position that didn't end up with us both rolled into the middle, ending up with pretty awful back aches. The shower water pressure was very low, which I'm guessing was partly a result of our being on the 8th floor; really great for the view, but not so much for my thick hair. The last issue was more a warning for someone staying in the summer: we visited in December when the daytime temps ranged from 65-70 degrees, yet within a couple hours of the sun coming up in the morning, the room temp had climbed to 80 degrees, and this is with the blackout draped closed. Again, a great view, but you pay for it a bit. We learned quickly, though, to turn the AC on first thing. You would have to be very careful about that in the summer, or you could come back at the end of a long day, to an oven. One thing we had no trouble with was noise. With all the clubs around the hotel, there was some music audible on the 8th floor before 11pm, but things quieted down significantly at 11, which was just around our bedtime. In all, I think that, except for the bed, the Gaslamp Plaza was definitely worth a visit. |

| The staff was extra friendly. The views from the room (7th floor) were spectacular. The room was large and roomy. We loved the extra large windows. The cable service was minimal. Only 480i picture and one of the TVs was a CRT. Parking was expensive ($28 for valet service), but it's that way every where in the Gas Lamp Quarter. The bars and restaurants around the hotel were excellent. All within walking distance. The continental breakfast was minimal too. All cold food, except the coffee. |

| Don't forget the $28 dollar parking fee, and make sure you have a room with a view... |

| Expecting the Gaslamp Plaza Hotel to be quiet in the middle of the Gaslamp would be a bit ridiculous. If you are looking for great downtown location, this is a good place to be. If you're looking for a serene getaway, you'll be disappointed. Even on the tenth floor, we could hear the bass and crowd noise from the night clubs on the street. That was expected. In a mini suite, however, we could also hear our next-door neighbors partying hard well into the night. A word of caution: At least some mini suites (ours, for example) have wooden doors that open into the larger suites for big groups. The doors don't begin to mask sound, so if the party next door is a group of Marines partying in San Diego for the weekend, for example, you will hear just about every word they say. I would still highly recommend the hotel, but you need to know what to expect. |

| What i like best about this hotel is the location. It is located in the heart of downtown San Diego. If you like the nightlife you'll like staying here. Major restaurants, clubs, and bars are all within walking distance. What i didn't like about the hotel is that the ice machine was located on the 7th floor only (in some stairwell area) & there was no soda vending machines. So that was a little inconvenient for my taste. Also since the hotel is located near alot of clubs it can get pretty rowdy on the streets after the clubs close down & you can hear all the yelling & carrying on that occurs outside. That can be a little disruptive when you are trying to sleep. This historical hotel does have character & it has a perfect spot in the heart of downtown SD and that is something I really like & enjoy. |

| This hotel is very convenient to the Gaslamp District as you may infer from its name. It's close to Horton Plaza shopping. I walked the six blocks or so to the Convention Center easily.
The staff was quite friendly and helpful. The pull lever to switch the water to the shower in the bathtub was hard to lift and it was fixed promptly when I reported it. The room was good size, though not a suite in the sense of two separate rooms. It has a broad selection of cable TV stations offered. It also had a large closet, which is nice.
The one small peeve is that the desk did not have electric plugs on or under it, so I had to run the cord for my computer to the outlet on the wall and be careful not to trip over it. The other thing to note is that the Gaslamp District is noisy on Friday night, not on the other weeknights I stayed there. So if that bothers you, you might ask for a room that does not face the street.
All in all, it was a good hotel and I'd stay there again. |

| Most hotels have beautiful lobbies and mediocre rooms. This one has a marginal lobby - but don't worry, the rooms are very nice. This hotel was built in 1933 when it was considered the first sky scraper in San Diego (11 floors). It is in the heart of the Gas Lamp district, and morning breakfast is served on the roof top in the fresh San Diego air over looking the area. Magic! |
