Recent Hampton Downtown Review: "I stayed here with some friends over the New Years Eve weekend as was quite pleased. All of us are in our mid 30's/40's and not the wild 20-somethings. I was afraid the hotel would be full of a bunch of college kids running up and down the hallway all night, but was pleasantly surprised that the guests were more my age and older. As it turned out, the noise that kept me up at night was the sound of the trains and railroad crossing bells that went off all night.... the hotel is right next to the light rail station. I love the fact they have free, fresh brewed coffee all day and all night long, and the hot breakfast is also a treat. It included waffles, sausage, eggs, cereal, and other fruits and items. Maintenance was good and everything worked, however, during our trip, one of the elevators was malfunctioning and we almost got trapped in it twice. We were on the 6th floor and as we were going down, it stopped between the 4th and 5th floor. The "CE" light started to flash and it wouldn't move for a while, but it did eventually make its way to the 4th floor and opened the doors so we could get off and take the stairs the rest of the way. In all, a great hotel for a night out at the gaslamp or downtown SD, or to catch a cruise as the hotel is directly across the street from the port. Highly recommend, you should not be disappointed."
