Recent Hilton San Diego Review: "I didn't initiate this, but the General Mgr was at the desk when I checked out . He asked me how my stay was and what he could do to improve things.Prior to booking the SD Hilton Resort, I had read many reviews, and not all were good! Ultimately, our stay was perfect !! We absolutely LOVE this place; my kids were practically in tears when we left! While  we were there, considering the mixed reviews, I kept thinking "who would NOT enjoy this placer". I would love the SD Hilton as a spot for a romantic (no kids) vacation and yet it is also perfect for families. I love the Spanish/California Colonial style buildings; the resort property itself is quite expansive, including large, terraced grounds, beach, marina and waterfront. They have genteel facilities and activities for all, too many to name. As an example, the first night we were there, they were making S'mores on the beach with the kids...ok, and a lot of adults. The staff was always extremely pleasant and very helpful. Our kids were able to safely roam the entire facility, from one spot (the beach, tennis, marina, pools, etc) to another. Meanwhile, we enjoyed the more sedate activities and areas of beauty the resort offers. The only wildlife we encountered were picturesque waterbirds and one small, attractive squirrel; if there was a rat infestation, it seems to have been 'stamped out'. The buffet breakfast was very good; one can choose to eat either on a lovely outside terrace or inside the serenely elegant restaurant. They have fireworks every night about 10 pm. My kids watched them from the beach while I drank pina colada's on the terrace and watched them through the palm trees. The night air was perfect and it was truly, magically beautiful-and I hadn't drank THAT much! I kept wondering what they do to top this on July 4thr The SD Hilton seems to be an older hotel that has been recently remodeled. Some have said it is not a 'successful' remodel, but, for us, the only thing 'missing' were modern, spacious show"
