This hotel has a great location on the San Diego bay, walking distance to shopping, dining and gas lamp... Also has a great bar and pub in the hotel. A couple things to keep in mind: *Self parking is $20 per day above room rates. *The hotel room had a sliding, translucent bathroom door.. this could be awkward if your staying with a significant other and you think bathroom activities should remain a mystery.

Our stay was for one night we had a great bay view. I found the Hotel to be expensive when you compare value. I would not discourage someone from staying in this hotel. They need more bellman to help with the number of guests.

I enjoyed this hotel very much but, at these prices, can't we have a bathtub? My wife doesn't like showers at all. Otherwise, a very nice experience.

I stayed at the HI due to its location - next to the train station. For that purpose it was perfect. I had just spent the previous night at the Hyatt for $30 more. I would definitely recommend the upgrade. As for the HI, it was old, facilities worn out, but suited the purpose.

All I wanted for our Labor Day weekend in San Diego was a view of the ocean and a balcony to enjoy it from. What a great selection we made when choosing The Holiday Inn-On the Bay! Our fourth floor room in the South Tower overlooking the bay was perfect. There are no frills here (except for the pillow selection - firm or soft - your choice), but we found our room to be comfortable and clean. We will stay here again. We were within walking distance of Seaport Village, the USS Midway, and the Maritime Museum. The free hotel shuttle to the zoo was a great convenience (goes to Seaport Village and the airport too). We didn't use our own vehicle all weekend. Be aware that there is a per night parking fee in the garage, but it was worth it. Parking downtown is at a premium, so if you stayed somewhere that had free parking and then drove in to downtown, you'd probably pay the same and perhaps more to park for the day anyway. Flying in? Don't rent a car if you are remaining in the general area. The USS Midway tour is a must-do for history buffs. We spent 4 hours on the carrier, and did not see it all. An afternoon at Seaport Village for appetizers and drinks - wonderful. An evening at the Elephant & Castle Pub, attached to the hotel, for drinks, dinner and a local band - very nice. With the exception of the day we spent at the zoo, we had a constant view of the ocean all weekend. For this New England girl that now resides in Arizona, it was Perfect Perfect Perfect.

The room and location was great, but it was the labor day long weekend and they only had one person working at the front desk and it took forever to check in. The same for the lounge/pub. Only one person working. We were there for over an hour and a half and she only came to our table twice. The food was good though and reasonably priced for a hotel lounge.

The room description said king bed with a balcony. The online pictures showed the balcony which looked nice with a small table and 2 chairs. Well, our room had a tiny balcony that was literally 2 feet wide, just enough to stand on if you are not a large person. Certainly not big enough for any furniture. This was quite disappointing as we were looking forward to sitting outside. Also, we were very surprised at the amount they charge for parking. Self parking is almost as much as the valet. Whatever you might think they would charge, well, it's probably higher than that. Our other option was to park across the street where the meters are, which I don't think you have to pay for if on a weekend. Good luck finding a spot, though. It worked out for us since we are night people and stayed out late so we were able to find a space. Also, we lucked out since we stayed on a Saturday & Sunday evening & Monday was a holiday. The hotel did let us switch rooms on the second night to one with a decent balcony that you could sit on. The carpet in the second room, however, was very dirty. The one good point is that the beds were very comfortable. Overall, the room was definitely not worth the price we paid. The worst part was the high, unreasonable fee for parking.

Stayed there for only a day while visiting san diego's attractions. Nice little hotel, right by the bay. The view of the city that we had was nice. Room service is ok. Pool is great. I would recommend this hotel if you plan to visit SD. The only thing i disapproved was its $20 parking fee.

I recently stayed here and the only compliant I had was the price of overnight parking $22.00 and that somebody hit the front of my car and put a huge scratch in it.
