The stay was nice. Even though they were putting on the finishing touches on the remodeling effort(12/30/2011), the place is sure to not disappoint you once completed. Good location and within walking distance to many restaurants, bars, and sights within Old Town San Diego. Brought several family members and so we we rented many rooms. All were satisfied.  Would stay here again.

Newly remodeled, spotless, quiet location at the end of Old Town area. Easy walk to Old Town and Coyote Cafe! Across the street from great restaurant (El Agave). Beautiful courtyard. Inexpensive for this area. Would definately stay again.

We booked a room here after staying there previously and being satisfied with the comfort and cleanliness of the rooms. When we arrived on this visit, we discovered that the hotel was undergoing construction and a brand change. Other than some messiness in the lobby, we weren't bothered by the construction. This truly is a great value hotel--it's walking  distance to Old Town and a Trolly Station, If you walk in the opposite direction, you're within a mile of the Lucha Libre Taco Shop (as seen on MvF). We stayed for New Year's Eve and spent a fraction of what our friends spent for a smaller room in the Downtown area. It did take some time to get a taxi from this location to downtown, but we blame that one NYE craziness. The guy working at the front desk was kind enough to comp us some bottles of water while we waited for our cab, and he called the cab companies several times on our behalf to get us a taxi. I think this hotel is changing to a Fairfield Inn any day now, but I still feel it will still be a great value. Since they are changing the brand, the rooms have been totally revamped. I was especially impressed by the bedside lamps that have outlets built right into them--no more searching for an outlet to charge your cell phone! Also, the TV in the room was a newer, large, flat screen. It was a way nicer TV than in our friends' room at a pricey, downtown SD hotel. We didn't use the pool this time around, but the last time we stayed, we went to the spa on a Saturday evening and would see the Sea World fireworks from there. Very cool.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Mission Inn. We had stayed there years ago when our children were small, hotel is still the same although going through major renovations due to being turned into a Fairfield/Marriott facility. The decor of the rooms and lobby are now very modern in style and color scheme not the same ambience of the tiled roof, adobe  look of the building itself. Construction was nearly complete with the exception of the lobby and breakfast room so had to be careful where we walked. All in all this is a great hotel and location for Old Town. Wouldn't stay anywhere else as it is within walking distance of shopping and restaurants and the freeway is right around the corner.

When the renovation of the hotel is complete it will be wonderful. I was aware of this when I made my reservations and thought that we are arriving so close to the completion date the finishing touches would be the only things lacking. Boy, was I wrong. The hotel is in disarray. It seemed at if only a few rooms were occupied and there was a lot of dust  and fumes. The staff was wonderful, the transportation to MCRD was right on time, our room was spotless and it is within walking distance to Old Town. Even with all the construction it was quiet. Would wait until construction is completed before I would stay here.

Hotel was under serious renovations. It has changed ownership to Marriott - Fairfield. We were walking thru construction area anywhere we went. Dusty and smelly. I'd wait and verify it was complete before I recommend staying here. The shuttle service to MCRD was great.
