Hotel was under reconstruction so it was a bit inconvenient. Room did not have nightstand light (strange). Internet was slow. Desk was small. On the positive side, it is close to convenient places. TV was LCD with HDMI input so I was able to hook up my laptop and watched movie. Would probably stay again.

The Lafayette was a beautiful hotel with so much charm. Renovations were in progress but the end result is going to be spectacular. The pool and poolside rooms was delightful. A few glitches here and there that can easily be fixed. ... leaking tub (needs replaced) and only sheer curtains on windows not much privacy... other than that this hotel is like  no other. Felt like a Meditterean oasis nestled in San Diego.

This hotel was in the middle of renovations but it was clean overall and it looks like it will be very nice once everything is finished. The only complaint I have is the guy who works front desk at night. He wasn't the friendliest. The purpose of our trip was to see the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, and the LA Zoo. This was a good place to stay that was  kind of in the middle of the two.

Facility is currently undergoing renovations but still had a pleasant stay. great poolside layout - great restaurant and convenient location within walking distance of many great restaurants and pubs.

We stayed at the Lafayette during a very busy time of year. It was easy to get a reservation and VERY economical.This is a historical hotel, very quaint, and interesting in and of itself. It is, however, in the middle of renovation so there is a lot of construction going on. It was not at all noisy considering what was being done. Our first night was  in a room that was above the restaurant. Unfortunately, it smelled like french fries. I would not suggest staying in a room numbered in the 240s. The staff happily moved us and the second night was awesome. There are a number of rooms to choose from-small to large. Beds are comfortable. Breakfast was all carbs! Bagels, waffles and cereal. No fruit, yogurt or protein! I wonder if that will change when the new breakfast room is done. Great location! We were five minutes from the zoo and any attraction that is in downtown San Diego. Easy to get to all freeways, about 15 minutes from Seaworld, and about 20 to the beach. We think this is a great hotel and will stay again.

Our stay at the Layfette Hotel was comfortable and the location was convenient to downtown SD and North Park restaurants. Hotel staff was great and worked with us to find the perfect room when we were initially unsatisfied with our view (or lack of view) in the initial room. Construction was a bit loud unfortunately, so if your room is close to the  construction this may be an issue for you as well. Overall, love the feel of the NEWLY remodeled rooms, you may want to request this in advance to insure your reservation is not in one of the older rooms.

Service was great and the breakfast was excellent. The fitness room is small but the basic machines are there and in good condition. The parking garage was a plus. The only downside was the out-of-order elevators, the state of renovations (but it looks like it's going to be a truly beautiful hotel when they finish), and our room faced the front so the  street and building lights were pretty bright all night- some blackout curtains would have really helped. Otherwise, it was excellent, well worth the money, and I would definitely stay again.

Was worried about this hotel because of the price. However, everything was clean and comfortable. A few typical amenities were missing from the room (lotion, ice bucket) but they have not completely finished all the renovations. Will definitely stay here next time we visit San Diego.

We were given our room key, got to our room and the door was locked from the other side. We had been given a room that was already occupied. We went back down stairs, given another room, the key card would not work. We go back down stairs, the person behind the desk had to make a new card. After three tries we were able to get into our room. We tried  to use the free Wi-Fi, we had to call twice before the user ID and password would work. Our room was spacious, the beds are really comfortable, newer LCD tv, IPOD dock clock radio. They are in the middle of renovating so that may have led to the mishaps. I would be willing to stay again, the price was really right.
