Recent Marriott Marina Review: "Thoroughly enjoyed a weekend stay at the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina Resort. The resort and room were clean and looked to be recently remodeled. Valet and Bell service is available, as is self-parking on the premises. The resort offers balcony rooms (north tower) with views of the bay and city. The pools and jacuzzi were clean and appeared  well kept-up. Roy's, an upscal fusion restaurant is on the property, past the outdoor cocktail bar, fire pits, and heated lounges. The marina and Seaport village are within walking distance and offer additional recreation, dining, and shopping, or just nice places to take a walk or a tour of the bay. For the more adventurous, the Gas Lamp Quarter is nearby, and Old Town San Diego is a 10-minute drive by car. A Red Trolley station is located across the street. The resort include amenities such as an on-site Starbucks, additional restaurant and lounge choices, a wine and cheese bar, gift shop, on-site fitness center (which we took advantage of), and several community rooms including a full-size ballroom. This is not a "discount" hotel, but the price was a good value considering the quality and comfort of our stay, location, and courtesy of the resort staff. Less than thrilling was the parking fee (which wasn't a huge deal, but it would have been nice to know about before-hand). Our experience dining at Roy's was good, but the Roy's in Woodland Hills provides a far better dining experience. Lack of kitchen-fresh bread and "boring" tasting starch choices detracted a bit from what we were expecting from previous Roy's restaurant experiences. Overall, 5 stars for the Resort stay. 3 1/2 stars for Roy's; they really need to be more in line with other locations in that fine chain. We'll be back soon for another stay!"

    The smoke-free Marriott San Diego Hotel and Marina consists of two gracefully curved towers and a 446-slip private marina. A marble-floored lobby leads to Molly's Restaurant and bar which serves seafood, steaks, and seasonal local produce. LC's is open for breakfast. DW's Irish Pub serves imported draft beers, boasts a single-malt scotch collection and prepares traditional pub fare. A Starbuck's outlet serves specialty coffees and pastries. A business center offers fax, photocopy, messenger and notary public services. The hotel's 54 function rooms offer 110,000 square feet of event space. Wireless Internet access is available for a fee.     A newly renovated large freeform outdoor pool are encircled by outdoor walkways between the Marriott's towers. The artfully landscaped pool area includes tall palm trees and bird-of-paradise blossoms. New additions to this area are cozy fire pits, private cabanas, 2 hot tubs, a kids play area with pop-jets, and a new pool restaurant and bar.
    At the hotel's 446-slip marina, guests can rent slips, personal watercraft, and powerboats. A state of the art newly renovated fitness center features a variety of cardiovasular equipment, free weights and weight machines. The adjacent Embarcadero is great for walking, running, or cycling. Balboa Park, 1.5 miles away, contains a municipal golf course, running paths, 13 museums, and the San Diego Zoo. Surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and sailing are available at local beaches and Mission Bay Aquatic Park, which also offers windsurfing, water skiing, kayaking, and other watercraft rentals. Rock climbing is within two miles, Coronado Beach and Coronado Municipal Golf Course are within six miles, and horseback riding and miniature golf are within 10 miles of the hotel.
