| I read the reviews before staying here. They were hot or cold. It's all expectations. I don't understand the complaints on parking. All big cities are the same. Yes, the rooms are small, but they are clean. This hotel is in the middle of the night-life.....enjoy it. Actually, I could not really hear anything inside the hotel. I opened a window just to soak in the ambiance. If you want a clean safe place to sleep, this is it. If you are traveling just to live in a luxury hotel room take a pass.
Only complaint: The room should have a safe. |

| Hotel is in the lively part of downtown San Diego -- tons of great restaurants, boutiques, and nightlife. The hotel staff was more than friendly and helpful. Rooftop area to bring food and drinks, and hang out with a cityscape view. Attached to the hotel is a 24hr restaurant with the "best pancakes in town or its free", with large portions for a great price. The location is just off of major roadways, so getting to other destinations around San Diego is easy. On the negative side -- the room was really small, with only a shower (no tub), and the toilet continually ran. Otherwise, a great hotel for a great price, definitely will go back in the future. |

| Location! This hotel was great, walking distance from everything you want to see and do in the gas lamp district. The rooms were small, but that was perfectly ok. The hotel had character, and the staff were very friendly. The restaurant attached to the hotel was great, especially if your looking for some late night grub. Check out the roof top, very romantic. The only complaints I have are that our tv did not work (but we weren't there to watch tv) and the cost of valet parking, but that is to be expected in San Diego. Overall we had a great experience, would deffinately stay here again! Side note: don't go to the Broken Yolk Cafe for breakfast, my food came to the table cold and when I sent it back it came back to me barely warm. |

| The hotel was built in 1913. The rooms are still the size of a 1913 room. The room was perfect for a romantic get away for the two of us. Sunday through Wednesday the neighborhood is quiet. Thursday through Saturday there are several clubs in the area that could make the stay difficult for families. We loved the quaint charm. The staff were courteous and the view from the top was lovely. My only complaint which applies to most hotels in the gaslamp district is the parking. Check the current valet rates and factor that in before staying. |

| We enjoyed our stay here at the hotel. It was walking distance to local diners and bars. The hotel staff was very friendly and the overall hotel was beautiful. |

| First of all you should know you're staying in downtown. On Friday and Saturday night it won't be super quiet outside. But if you don't mind that, which I didn't coming from New York, it was fine. The parking situation could be improved. There is a Vallet service for only $20/night with in and out privlidges, but the parking is off site so it takes a little time to get your car every time, especially if everyone at the hotel wants their car at the same time, like Sunday Morning checkout time. Overall it's a great hotel, and near highway 5 to get you to any of the great San Diego locations you'd wish to go. I'd stay there again. |

| Less expensive than the big guys with loads more charm. Smaller rooms are no problem for one or two people. Rooftop view is outstanding. Slight distance from Gaslight Stripe (one block) is a major advantage. Staff are super polite, responsive and informative. The attached restaurant is a great value for good food at a good price and way more than one can eat. Loved their breakfasts and lunch salads. |

| Quaint, older hotel with elevators from 1913. Front desk personnel were very helpful, connected 24 hr restaurant was a good value, complimentary shuttle to airport, complimentary internet worked well all the time. Only place where I've had to initial a statement that location in an entertainment district could be noisy, but noise was not a problem. Walking distance (7 to 8 blocks) to convention center, baseball stadium, and numerous restaurants/bars in the area. Room with 1 double bed was quite small but not a problem as I was traveling alone. |

| This hotel is right where you need to be if you want to be able to walk to good food, and the San Diego night life. Plenty of bars and clubs are close; there is an above average restaurant connected to the hotel, and plenty more withing walking distance; the House of Blues is right down the street!
Staff is friendly, and will help with recommendations of what to do, where to eat, and how to get there. |

| Loved the 1913 elevator with the old iron door pull. The location was right in the middle of the Gaslamp District, with tons of restaurants, movies, bars, shops, and quick walk to light rail. I could even walk to Balboa Park. Our room was small and not luxurious, but fine for the money. And there was a great gym nearby which was free with the hotel stay. We loved our time at the St. James! The staff went out of their way to be helpful. |
