Recent Rancho Bernardo Golf Review: "I booked a Friday night stay for some rest, relaxation and spa pampering for myself. From reading previous guest reviews, I already expected to drive through a residential area to arrive at the hotel, but once there, I forgot about the neighborhood outside until I drove out on Saturday afternoon!! The grounds with its beautiful, mature landscaping, sounds of water falling everywhere served to make this a very quiet, serene, and private place for unwinding. I was unable to valet park since there were so many guests arriving when I did, and instead parked in a lot beyond the entrance and walked back to check in. However a bell person accompanied me back to my car and helped to carry my bags back to the hotel. He escorted me to my room and pointed out everything along the way that I needed to know. Once there, he opened the door, placed my bags into the closet, opened my balcony door (after asking me first) for air, pointed out details of the room including the mini bar (which he unlocked for me--a good thing because the lock was stuck) because I wanted to use the refrig. Unfortunately, this was the only assistance I was able to receive from bell staff (more about that later). My deluxe room was beautiful and looked just like the picture on the website. The bathroom was very clean with two sink and mirror areas separated by a wall, a deep tub and shower combination (best for bathing, since the tub was rather slippery and its depth and high platform sides and no grab bar was somewhat of a hazard as I found when I nearly slipped while showering). My 2nd floor room overlooked one of the pools which I wasn't crazy about since there were people there making a good bit of noise--but it was only 5:00pm so there was not really a problem. Next stop was my spa appt @ 6:00pm. The spa was a little bit of walk (but a beautiful one) from my room. Once there I was totally impressed with both the grounds and the facility. Enticing smells, sounds of water, and calming music greeted me"

A 24-hour fitness center includes circuit equipment, treadmills, stair machines, stationary bikes, and free weights. Nutritionists and personal trainers are available (surcharge). Seven spa tubs dot the resort grounds, and two outdoor pools are suitable for laps. The resort also has bicycles for rent and jogging paths. A children's camp is offered seasonally (surcharge).

    El Bizcocho - This award-winning restaurant features contemporary French cuisine and a 1,600-label wine list. The Mexican-colonial decor includes rich colors and wrought-iron chandeliers. Outdoor patio seating is available. Dinner and Sunday brunch are served; jackets are required.

    La Taberna - Adjoining El Bizcocho is this lounge with upholstered armchairs, a bright fireplace, and a baby grand piano. Cocktails, fine wine, and live piano music are offered nightly.

    The Veranda Bar and Grille - California-Mediterranean cuisine is served at this casual bistro overlooking the 18th hole. Menu items range from salads and wood-fired pizzas to steaks. Guests can dine on an outdoor terrace with a fireplace. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served.
