Recent Sofia Hotel Review: "I stayed at the Sofia Hotel from 2/16-2/19 for a conference. It is conveniently located about 7 short blocks away from the convention center, which only took about 15 minutes in the morning. With the glorious San Diego weather, the walk was just fine by me! The hotel rooms are small but get the job done, and are extremely comfortable. Everything is clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. My only complaints had to do with the night-time noise level. Most reviews complain about the area and party-like atmosphere, but my issue had more to do with loud trucks idling just outside. It did not help that I was on a lower floor (3rd) and had a room facing Broadway (a busy main street. The noise was tolerable, however, because there was a white noise machine in my room (which also had an iPod hookup, which I adored!). My other complaints had to do with the television (reception was crappy most of the time on most of the channels), and the shower. The shower was very modern, with a half-glass window type thing (not a door). The glass only covered the area from the wall with the shower head/faucet to halfway to the wall. It was kind of cool, but also permitted water to escape to the bathroom floor and make things a little slippery. A towel helped, but did not completely keep the water from getting on the floor. Otherwise, the Sofia was great. The staff were helpful and accomodating and gave us great tips on where to eat and how to get around. I would absolutely stay again."
